Step 1:

In this first step of our guide on how to draw a cloud, we’ll start simple. Carefully remove a very curved horizontal line as you can see in the contact picture. We’ll be developing this line in the next few steps, so once it’s drawn, we’ll move on to the next step!

Step 2:

Now that you have the first curved line that will be a big part of your cloud drawing, you can start adding more fluffy sections to it. Simply draw three or four smaller clumps from the part you drew in the previous step. We’ve added two bulges on the left and one on the right in our image, so you can replicate that or change it up a bit for a unique look!

Step 3:

Continuing from the last step, we will continue adding to your cloud drawing. Using more curvy lines, add a few small tufts that come down from where you last left off. Next, use two larger curved lines, one on each side, to form the sides of your cloud. As you can see from our reference image, the curved line on the left side is slightly larger than the one on the right side. This is to make the cloud a bit bumpier, and you can resize the different bumps in a way that suits you!

Step 4:

We will add a background for your cloud in this step of our guide to drawing a cloud. To do this, make one continuous line made up of several of the small curvy, lumpy lines you drew earlier. Make this line extend from side to side to form a full cloud shape. For this step, you can also vary the size of the bumps as you see fit so they look exactly how you like.

Step 5:

Your cloud drawing is almost done and ready to color now! Before moving on to the final step, we just have a few small details. We added some wavy lines inside the cloud to give it a bit more volume. You can replicate these lines, add your variations, or even draw different parts of this image! There are many things you can do to customize your drawing. You can draw a few more clouds around it or draw details like birds flying or the sun shining to give it even more personality! What details will you add to complete your cloud drawing?

Step 6:

Now that you’ve drawn your cloud and added some final details, you’re almost at the end of this guide on how to draw a cloud! Before you finish, you’ll need some great colors, and that’s where you can have fun showing off your creativity. If you’ve drawn some fun extra details, you can also color them in to add wonderful pops of color detail to your drawing. You can also decide what kind of color you want for the background to suggest the type of day in your cloud drawing. You can use a nice orange color to give the impression of a sunset or a sunrise. A bright blue with a bright yellow sun would give the impression of a beautiful summer day,

While a grayer color palette would give it a more cloudy look. You can even draw lots of raindrops falling from the cloud and color them light blue for a wonderful color variation. Once you’ve decided on the colors you want to use, you can have even more fun with the art mediums you choose to complete your drawing. Acrylic paints and colored pens can make colors look crisper and brighter. On the other hand, watercolor paints, colored pencils, or crayons can make these colors look softer and more pleasing.
