From huge stadiums built in the 21st century to historic theatres that opened during the vaudeville era, there are many places in Philadelphia to watch a sports game or a concert. BB & T Pavilion:
The year-round entertainment complex in Camden is the centerpiece of the waterfront on the other side of the Delaware River from Philadelphia. It has a 25,000-seat amphitheater for summer concerts and a 7,000-seat indoor theatre for when it gets cold. The amphitheater opened in 1995 and has a view of the Philadelphia skyline and the Ben Franklin Bridge. You can get there by car or the RiverLink Ferry, which runs longer hours when there are shows.
The Met Philadelphia:
The Met Philadelphia was built in 1908 as the Philadelphia Metropolitan Opera house. It is a beautiful piece of history on North Broad Street. Since then, it has been used for many different things by Philadelphians, such as concerts in Philadelphia by Mahalia Jackson, boxing matches, and basketball games. In the 1920s, it was even a movie palace. The Met has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972. In the 2010s, its owners and Live Nation brought it back to its former glory, and in December 2018, Bob Dylan played there to celebrate.

The Crystal Palace, the center of live music on South Street, opened in 1908 and showed movies for five cents. Since then, it’s been a repertory theatre, a place for art films, and a nightclub. Its current name comes from the fact that it was once a repertory theatre. The Theatre of Living Arts has been a music hall since 1988. Up-and-coming bands like Lennon Stella and big bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers have played there.

The Fillmore Philadelphia:
In Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood, The Fillmore Philadelphia is in a 125-year-old building that used to be a metal factory. It has three venues: the main room, which can hold 2,500 people and has great views even from the back, the 450-person Foundry, and the lounge-like Ajax Hall. The Fillmore Philadelphia builds on the history of rock ‘n’ roll made by the original Fillmore in San Francisco. It does this by combining gritty urban touches like grand chandeliers.
Tower Theatre:
The Tower Theatre, which was built in 1927 and was one of Upper Darby’s first movie or theatre palaces, is right next to the 69th Street Terminal. The Tower started out as a theatre for movies and vaudeville, but it also has great acoustics. In fact, David Bowie’s 1974 album David Live was recorded there while he was on tour. A 1980 Paul Simon show at the Tower was filmed and turned into the movie Paul Simon in Concert.
The Mann:
The Mann has been hosting pop, classical, and hip-hop artists since 1976. It is located in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park, which is one of the oldest urban parks in the country. It is where the Philadelphia Orchestra spends the summer, and famous classical musicians events today in Philadelphia like Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, and Midori have played there. It has also added artists like Sigur Ros and Jack Johnson, as well as musicals like “Cats” and the Philadelphia tradition The Roots Picnic, to its lineup.
